The last week and a half I've been machine piecing a quilt top for our expected son (we're adopting a 6 year old boy and are not sure when we will pick him up yet but think in the spring sometime). The pattern is from Kathleen Tracy's book Civil War Sewing Circle.
This afternoon I laid out all the blocks, sashing, and borders on the floor to arrange the blocks and see how it would look all put together.
While stitching the first few blocks together I noticed that I made mistakes on two of them and am trying to decide whether I should fix the two blocks with mistakes before I sew all the pieces together. Would you? Do you even notice the mistakes unless they were pointed out?
This is a beautiful quilt. The layout helps disguise the mistakes but I'd probably fix them. It really won't be hard to do at this stage. Congratulations on your new son! What an exciting year this will be! ~Jeanne
ReplyDeleteI would definitely fix it, even though it looks OK, you will spend the rest of your life pointing out to people that you made a boo boo.. 'cos we all do. Also, I'm sure you don't want to start your life with your new son with a mistake
ReplyDeleteThe only question is: does it bother you? If it does bother you, change it. If not, this is the way it should be. That's up to you. I correct things other people couldn't care less about, and vice versa. So what do you think? Does it bother you?
ReplyDeleteI think you did a great job, and created a playful setup, that attracts the eye to look at your quilt, instead of resting it in the middle.

I'm usually a "let it be" kinda gal but if you are already concerned about it you probably should just go ahead and fix it. It looks fine but those "errors" tend to grow with time and you will probably be happier once you change. But if you like it then leave it after all it is your quilt and your opinion is the only one that really matters!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the comments noted above. If it's bothering you now it will bother you more and more over time. Plus, I always feel better once I correct an error.
ReplyDeleteI would leave it. It took me a while to figure out what it was, and then I decided it made me like the quilt more.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a beautiful quilt and I do as the others suggested. I fix mistakes if they bother me. Some of my mistakes don't and so I leave them. But if it does bother you, then I would fix them.
ReplyDeleteI love any quilt pattern by Kathleen Tracy and have all of her books too. Have you joined her one small quilt a month SAL? Just a thought :D
On another side note. I went back and took another look at what you are calling mistakes and I personally think they make the quilt look good. I rather like them.
ReplyDeleteI like the look of the quilt, just the way it is! I would not call those mistakes at all-sure all of the blocks do not look alike, but I think that adds character and makes the quilt just more beautiful
ReplyDeleteI agree - if it bothers you, you should fix it. Or think of it this way - he'll have a quilt that will be just his and no one (probably) will have one like it.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't bother me. I had a hard time of seeing it at first and thought putting the "mistake" blocks in opposite corners helped to draw attention away from them. I'll probably not change anything just stitch it all together.
ReplyDeleteI would fix them...If I'm completely honest I noticed them right away. Love quilt though...beautiful colour choices.
