I find that finishing a project is one of the best things I like about quilting. You hear a lot of quilters talk about their UFO's. Growing up I was taught to always finish what you start. I started this scrappy double Irish Chain last June when I revamped my sewing room. I spent most of the summer cutting and sewing together these blocks from all the scraps I had saved in a large Rubbermaid tote.
I started hand quilting it right after Thanksgiving. I really think if you break down a project and set small goals anything is possible. I really like that it is finished and I can move on to a new project.

so nice to be finished with your quilt. I too like to finish what I start - I have too many quilt tops waiting in line though - I have to do better at finishing before I start more but I always want to start more!! LOL

I have three in progress now. I like to have something to hand stitch, something to piece and usually something to quilt. It keeps me from starting anymore when I have a variety of techniques to choose from.
DeleteI love your Irish Chain, Carla, and your quilting is lovely. Thanks for the second pic to see it better! I think you are very disciplined to be able to start and finish a quilt like that. That's more discipline than I ever know or have! lol I'm one of those with dozens of ufo's.....mostly tops, just needing to be quilted!
ReplyDeletei agree with you about breaking down a project into small goals. when i do that i don't feel so overwhelmed with the entirety of the project and each goal met becomes a worthy accomplishment until, before i know it, i have a finished quilt!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it is a great moment when it all comes together!
DeleteIt's a beautiful quilt, Carla! I bet you slept well under it. :)
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your comments, I'm picking up my quilt that I've been quilting forever!! Thanks for the words of encouragement......Your quilting is beautiful as well as the quilt itself.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that your back tackling your quilt. I put check marks on a calendar to help me track my progress and gave myself some free days.
