Instead of hand quilting lately I have been hand piecing. The joy of both of these are equal in my mind. I will get back to my quilting soon, but in the meantime I have been working on Lucy Boston: Patchwork of the Crosses. At the link you can see the pattern that I am using from a site called Inklingo – I love this method of hand piecing but it is not the only way I hand piece. The link tells the history of this pattern as well. (I just like the site I am not affiliated with it).
Here is a close up of a block so you can see how it is made.
Right now it is 48 inches by 60 inches. I am working on a row right now that is ready to be joined to the quilt which well then make it 60 inches x 60 inches. My aim to make it queen size if I do not tire on it first. Of course it will be hand quilted! Couldn’t do it any other way could I after all the work of hand piecing 
I need to get back to my quilting soon, I have taken some time off from it and have two in the works at the moment – I like a variety of projects to work on and have two that I am piecing and two that I am quilting with plans to make more this year – like a lot of us I am not happy just working on one at a time.

ReplyDeleteIt looks gorgeous so far, that's a lot of piecing for one block but oh so worth it. I'm becoming quite fond of hand piecing myself.

ReplyDeleteMany many years ago, There was a British Fair at a department store in Tokyo. I went because I was playing bagpipes out front. The fair was mostly products for sale but there was a small quilt exhibit on the side. Among the quilts was that quilt by Lucy Boston. I took out pencil and notebook and sketched the design. Since then I have made two quilts using it. The first I called "Star Crossed" because I was destined to make ie upon seeing it. The second one I named "Double Crossed" because I was inspired to make it again. That pattern has so many possibilities I may end up making another!
ReplyDeletethanks everyone, this quilt is actually easier to piece than it might look - once you get into it the piecing goes smoothly. In the book there are quite a variety of layouts that one can make. I don't know though if I would make more than one like Julie has.
